"I would appreciate an opportunity to work with you if you’d honor me with your vote."

As a community we must work together to value education, value our children, and identify ways to support our schools and our teachers. As national dialogue on education has shown, it’s easy to place blame on one group or another for the problems that we face in our schools; however, it is much more difficult, yet more rewarding ultimately, to acknowledge that we all bear responsibility for the success or failure of our schools and of our children.

As a former coach at Henninger and daughter of a special education teacher, I know the immense potential and talent that our students possess. I will bring my decade’s worth of experience as a budget and management analyst at Onondaga County to work tirelessly to ensure that the Board is accountable to the taxpayers while never losing sight of the students we serve. I will use my ability to work across the aisle from years of participating in local government to bridge differences and find common ground on difficult issues.

I’m Michelle Mignano and I am one of the Democratic candidates running for Commissioner of Education for the Syracuse City School District. I would appreciate an opportunity to work with you if you’d honor me with your vote.

“If there is one thing all educators know, and that many studies have confirmed for decades, it is that there is no single answer to educational improvement.”

—The Death and Life of the Great American School System, Diane Ravitch
